Sales Representatives
Now the samples can be shown to the sales reps. Sometimes they will ask that you make certain changes in order for a better presentation. Experienced sales representatives can be informative, and give helpful advice. They meet with the buyers and have an eye for what will sell well.
Buyers from retail stores all over the country are invited to visit the sales representatives’ showrooms in one of many fashion Marts across the country for presentation of the season’s collections. Or, the sales rep will show lines at trade shows, which occur at various times each year. Sales reps will also travel to show the line to individual stores. This type of rep is known as a road rep. For a start-up company it is always a good idea to show a first line and sell at a show yourself. It is important to see the reaction to the product and to learn something about selling.
